Local Priorities Shoplifting Message

I wanted to provide you an update regarding Shoplifting, which members around this area have highlighted as an issue of concern on the Met Engage priority survey.

PC Gunn attended BOOTS on Coomb Lane, Raynes park at 1400hrs on Friday the 25th of July 2025. Boots informed PC Gunn that they were being targeted by a prolific shoplifter, who had been attending the venue daily at 1600hrs and had stolen thousands of pounds worth of products. PC Davies and PC Gilbert got into their plain clothes, and made their way to BOOTS and sat awaiting the suspects arrival. At 1550hrs, the suspect entered the store, and left within 30 seconds, with multiple carrier bags full of products. Officers were quick to detain and arrest the suspect for shop lifting offences. A flick knife was also found on his person. The suspect was charged with 2 counts of shoplifting, and possession of an offensive weapon.

Shoplifting is a crime that can have a substantial negative impact on local businesses across London. If you notice anything suspicious or witness anyone shoplifting, please report it as soon as possible. These reports are invaluable in letting us build a picture of when and where shop lifters operate, meaning we can be in the right place at the right time to arrest those responsible.
